Analysis - Hatchet 3 (2013) (Decker Shado video)

Hatchet 3 was the horror film of the Hatchet trilogy. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures as well as his escapade across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film stars Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow as well as Rileah Vanderbilt as Misty.

The film's special effects are the film's greatest strength. Hatchet 3 uses a lot less CG effects than other horror films. This allows for some truly terrifying moments to be captured throughout the film.

Kane Hodder stands out as an intimidating character. The cast gives a solid performance. The dialogue is sufficiently campy and tongue-in-cheek for it to be reminiscent of a classic 1980s slasher film at moments. There are some really humorous moments that provide a comic contrast to the heartbreaking violence.

Due to the budget being $1 million, most places were reused from earlier films. The boat house that was used twice in the film was a prime example. A lot of the film feels like it was recycled from other movies within the series. This can make it seem like it's all too familiar especially for people who've watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2

Overall, Hatchet 3 was enjoyable, even though it felt like the previous installments within the series. It provided lots of gory thrills as well as some entertaining performances from the (blog) actors.
